Sailing is a rapidly growing sector, to the point that the hospitality facility structures have become insufficient, particularly in Finistère, where 3,000 places are believed to be lacking in the port.
On the shoreline territory of Morlaix CCI, facilities are widely insufficient to establish an offer equal to this "rising wave". The purpose of a global Sailing Plan for the Bay of Morlaix, set up by Morlaix CCI, is to increase the response capability to this new tourist current and to strengthen the economic fields connected to sailing.
Morlaix, Plougasnou and Roscoff: three ports to be developed
At the end of several phases of analysis, driven with the advice of a specialized firm and within the framework of a steering committee, particularly linking the communities involved, a master plan for sailing in the bay of Morlaix was finalized. It anticipates four major axes: reinforcing the development of the port of Morlaix; improving the mooring conditions around the bay; creating a deep water port in Roscoff, on the site of Bloscon; and setting up a sill port in Plougasnou on the Diben site.
A dock with 620 deep water places in Roscoff
In Roscoff, CCI is conducting the planning project of a deep water sailing dock for the expansion of the existing activities, on this same site that it already runs for its ferry, trade and fish businesses. In April, 2005, then in March, 2007, the public was made aware of the project after in-depth, technical studies, including a landscaped integration approach. Subject to favourable outcome of the next procedures (of which a public hearing), the marina could be put in service by 2011, after two years of work.
