Morlaix CCI was the first CCI created in Finistère, in 1833. It covers a third of the northeast of the department, around the cities of Morlaix, on the coast, and Carhaix, in the interior areas. The territory of this consular district is made up of 96 municipalities, 14 cantons, 9 inter-communal cooperation public buildings (one urban area community in Morlaix, and 8 municipal communities). The Northern section of this district covers the whole of the territory of the "Land of Morlaix". The Southern section covers the third of the territory of the "Pays de Centre Ouest Bretagne", straddling three departments (Finistère, Côtes d'Armor and Morbihan) around its centre town, Carhaix.
The economic framework
This territory is occupied by a dense population of 164,000 people (among whom 68,000 are working population) which has experienced a return to economic growth since 2002. Morlaix CCI represents 6,129 companies of business, industry and services registered in the trade register. This economic base shows a structure fairly comparable to the national average regarding the companies' size and activity. However, it is characterized by the strength of its agri-food industry (Louis Gad, SBS, Abattoirs d'Evron, Kritsen, etc.), which relies on the vitality of agricultural production activities. The sectors of transports (Brit Air, Britanny Ferries), publishing (Le Télégramme), and the mechanical equipment industry (Gianonni France, Géminox, etc.) are also widely represented.
Commerce and tourism
The commercial activity is organized around a main pole in the Northern section, that of the city of Morlaix which concentrates more than half of the commercial space of the district, and another one in the Southern section, the one of Carhaix. Secondary poles in Landivisiau, Saint-Pol-de-Léon/Roscoff, Châteauneuf-du-Faou and Plouescat contribute to the development of the commercial activity over the entire territory. Lastly, the tourism sector has more than 90 hotels and numerous facilities on the coast, mainly around Roscoff (ferry port) and along the bay of Morlaix, but also in the interior areas (Landivisiau, Châteauneuf, Carhaix, etc.).
